Burditts Electrical - Kettering
On the edge of Kettering town centre, on Morley Street, you’ll find Burditts Electrical, a brilliant traditional kitchen appliance and electrical goods shop that combines the reliability of a long-standing business with the friendly, personal service that only a local independent can offer.

Run by the ever-welcoming Mark, Burditts Electrical is the place to go for everything from washing machines, fridges and cookers to kettles, vacuums, air fryers, TVs, headphones and more. With over 100 years of history behind the name, this business has truly stood the test of time!
We popped in to see Mark who told us: “It all started in Desborough and later expanded to Nene Court in Wellingborough. When a shop became available in Kettering almost two years ago, I knew it was the right time and place to move the business.
I loved the location straight away because there’s free roadside parking outside, great visibility with the big shop window, and it’s a lovely area with residents and neighbouring businesses dotted around. I can definitely recommend the local fish and chips shop!Mark - Burditts Electricals
My journey with Burditts began by lending a hand with TV repairs for a previous owner. Over time, I took on more responsibility and eventually stepped into running the business myself which is both a challenge and a joy.
I really enjoy it because I get to meet so many people, and every day is different. The best part is being able to offer that personal touch you just don’t get online. Customers can come in, see the products up close, ask questions, and get honest advice. There’s no pressure to buy, I just want people to walk away feeling confident in their purchase.
I’ve grown a loyal customer base, especially among older residents who appreciate the extra support, including local delivery, installation and even recycling of old appliances.
We have a good range of stock with three deliveries a week from our trusted supplier Euronics which is the biggest buying group and network that supports independent retailers across the UK. This gives the business access to a huge range of competitively priced products, including top brands like Bosch, Shark, Indesit and Sensis.
Step inside the shop and you’ll find microwaves, toasters, TVs, batteries, cables and all kinds of handy household accessories, the kind of items you often need quickly but can’t always find in local shops.
I keep up to date with the latest product trends and regulations, especially around energy efficiency, which is increasingly important to customers especially now people are finding limits to their household budget. Listening to what people want is important, I’m always learning and that helps me stock the best products for my customers.
Word of mouth has been a huge part of the business’ success, and I am trying hard to embrace social media! I also encourage customers to leave online reviews to help spread the word further. Although I don’t love the admin side of things - I’d much rather be chatting to customers than doing paperwork – I'm proud of how far the shop has come.
For anyone thinking of starting their own business, my advice is to go for it but be prepared to give it everything. You’ve got to love what you do and be ready to wear all the hats! Sales, stock, deliveries, admin, marketing, customer service – the lot! But the rewards are worth it, especially when you’re making a difference to someone’s day.
Burditts Electrical is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Mark does local deliveries after shop hours.
Whether you're in need of a new washing machine or just some honest advice, you’ll find a warm welcome, expert knowledge, and great value at this brilliant local business!
