Village Green Blossoms

Every bouquet tells a story, and I love that I am part of that experience, there’s no better feeling!

Glendon Lodge Farm near Kettering is a great place to visit as it is home to a range of small businesses which we love to see! This includes the recently opened Village Green Blossoms, a blooming floristry business. It’s run by busy mum Lucy, whose dream of being a florist has turned into a reality, and she still has those pinch-me moments to make sure it’s real.

I am a creative person and have always loved flowers. From a young age I was fascinated with them and would often pick a selection to make my own bouquets or take arrangements apart to re-style them. I dreamed of turning my passion for florals into my profession, and after qualifying and setting the business up, I worked from a studio in my garage at home. It began to bloom, and the time was right to open my own place last summer.

Glendon Lodge Farm is an ideal location, the businesses here are all housed in old farm buildings which have been repurposed. My little place was once home to cows, and I love that! The buildings have charm and unique characteristics, which works well with my floristry style, and I live close by which is very handy. The other business owners here are all lovely, I have been welcomed into the community and I have collaboration plans in the pipeline. We all support and promote each other.

Everyone is welcome at Village Green Blossoms; it smells incredible inside with the flower displays, and I also stock some plants and a mix of locally made cards and gifts. It can be complex, but I love every aspect of running my small business, even the bucket scrubbing!

I enjoyed styling the shop and putting the all-important finishing touches to it before we opened, my family have been an amazing support helping me to get everything ready, and my son too who can often be found here helping.

One aspect I really like is meeting customers and getting to know them. I create bouquets and arrangements, for life’s milestones including weddings, birthdays, funerals, anniversaries, and more, as well as corporate events, so I get to meet a huge range of people. I especially love the ‘just because’ bouquets as there is no better way to make someone smile, than with a delivery of gorgeous flowers!

I am always looking for ways to improve and grow, I’ve recently introduced ‘Fleur by Village Green Blossoms’ to allow me to advertise and market my work more specifically.

My floristry style is wild and whimsical, and I think that is evident in the natural, free-flowing floral pieces I create, I like to capture the essence of nature’s beauty. I get to work on a variety of projects including artificial arrangements which have become popular lately, they are fun to do and look good as decorative pieces at events, or at home.

Being a florist is a busy job, we are always thinking ahead to the next season, and as well as running the shop I also attend wedding fairs and other events to promote the business and take orders. I’m hoping to hold an event here at Glendon Lodge Farm in the future, so look out for that!

The flowers I use are locally sourced whenever possible, and I’m committed to sustainability. I make eco-friendly choices where I can including using bio-degradable packaging to minimise plastic use. It’s these thoughtful touches that set small businesses apart from the supermarkets, along with the customer service and getting a bespoke bouquet made with care and dedication as opposed to mass-produced bouquets.

Running Village Green Blossoms brings me so much joy, especially because I can use my creativity, make connections, and work on a variety of projects. There is no typical day in the life of a florist here as every day is so different.
