The East Kettering Sustainable Urban Extension (SUE) (also called Hanwood Park) is a mixed-use development containing up to 5,500 dwellings, a secondary school, up to 4 primary schools, open space (covering park(s) and play areas), employment areas, local centre facilities and associated infrastructure.

The East Kettering SUE was granted outline planning permission on 1 April 2010, subject to a number of conditions. These conditions covered a variety of issues including design, access and movement, archaeology, biodiversity, open space and retail floor space. A full list of conditions is contained within the decision notice.

Strategic Design Guidance was published in January 2007. This document outlined the former Kettering Borough Council and partners’ policies and views on the design of the SUE as a whole and elements within it. It was not intended to be a detailed masterplan or development framework.
