Tenancy succession

Moving properties when succeeding

When succeeding, you are succeeding the tenancy - not the property itself.

You may need to move if you are not the deceased tenant's husband, wife or civil partner and:

  • you are under-occupying the property
    or
  • the property has major disabled adaptations you don't need

In these cases we may move you to a smaller or more appropriate property as part of succeeding the tenancy.

We understand that the death of a loved one may take some time to come to terms with and you need time to sort out the deceased’s personal and financial affairs.

During the first 6 months following the death of the tenant, we will offer support to secure alternative suitable accommodation to those who have succeeded. You will need to move to alternative accommodation before the 1 year anniversary of the death.
