Tenancy succession

Apply to succeed a tenancy

A succession form needs to be completed with the following evidence:

  • copy of the tenant's death certificate
  • your ID
  • proof of residence showing you lived with the tenant during the 12 month period before they died
  • proof of your relationship to the deceased tenant
  • proof the property is your only or main home

Once we have received the completed form, a Housing officer will contact you to arrange a visit and go through the process with you. You will be asked to pay for use and occupation of the property while we consider your application.

Independent advice

Independent legal advice on succession or any other tenancy matter can be obtained from the Citizens Advice Bureau or any local solicitor

An application form will be provided by our Housing team when you let us know about the tenant passing away.

Refusal

There is no right of appeal.

If you are unhappy with our decision, you can make a complaint outlining why you believe we have made the wrong decision.

Your complaint will be dealt with by officers who have not been involved in making the original decision.
