New Local Plan for North Northamptonshire

We are preparing a new local plan for the area to guide decisions in the period up to 2045.

The North Northamptonshire Local Plan will replace the North Northamptonshire Joint Core Strategy Local Plan (Part 1) and the Part 2 Local Plans which were adopted for the former Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough and East Northamptonshire areas.

Notice of intention to commence local plan preparation

This notice is published in accordance with Regulation 19 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2026.

Planning authority preparing the plan

This local plan is being prepared by North Northamptonshire Council.

Identifying details for the plan

Title of the plan: North Northamptonshire Local Plan (2024-2045).

The North Northamptonshire Local Plan will provide the strategic framework for development and make allocations to meet the development needs for the area. It will provide the strategy for development for the period 2024-2045, with the spatial vision for achieving sustainable growth extending beyond this.

The North Northamptonshire Local Plan will not incorporate all or any parts of a minerals and waste plan. A separate Minerals and Waste plan will be prepared which is expected to also cover the administrative area of West Northamptonshire, the plan being prepared together with that authority.  

Area covered by the plan

The North Northamptonshire Local Plan will cover the entire administrative area of North Northamptonshire (ONS code E06000061).

Expected start of plan preparation

North Northamptonshire Council expects to formally start preparing the North Northamptonshire Local Plan under the new plan-making system in August 2026, marking the start of the 30-month plan preparation process.
