Housing disrepair claims
Some of our tenants are being approached by 'no win - no fee' companies.
They often say that if you let them into your home, they will help you claim compensation for any repairs that they find.
These companies are not approved by North Northamptonshire Council and will not have a council ID card or any connection to us.
Our operatives and officers will always show their North Northamptonshire Council ID or contractor ID cards when they come to your home.
Most of these companies are trying to make money from landlords such as ourselves, and often customers do not receive any compensation. Some tenants have even ended up paying fees when claims fail or are withdrawn.
If someone from a legal disrepair firm comes to your door, make sure you:
- always ask for identification
- call the police if you feel scared or threatened
- talk to us before you sign any documents
- don’t feel pressured or misled into signing anything - you may be liable for fees if you change your mind later
As your landlord, we’re here to help and look after you and your home. The best way of making sure that happens is to follow these steps before engaging with any claims companies:
- report your repair
- make a formal complaint if you’re not happy with your repair
We will look into your complaint, do our best to put things right and make sure the same issue doesn’t happen again.
This way, we can ensure that your rent money is invested into repairs and improvements to your home - not into legal fees.
