Driving licence
You must have hold a full DVLA, Northern Ireland, European Economic Area (EEA) or Exchangeable driving licence that has been valid for a period of at least one year prior to the date of application.
You need to provide evidence of this when you apply and for each renewal. The driving licence must specify your current home address.
Any EU Nationals who are already licensed with North Northamptonshire Council with a European Driving Licence (and who have leave to remain in the UK) can continue to drive, however a full UK DVLA driving Licence must be applied for within 12 months.
You can only drive in Great Britain for 12 months if you got your EU Licence by exchanging a non-EU Licence. This could change depending on Government guidance, so we advise drivers to apply for a UK driving licence as soon as possible.
You need to upload a copy of your DVLA photo driving licence when applying and to supply us with a DVLA check code to allow us to check the authenticity of your licence.
A DVLA driving licence check is repeated every 3 years.
