Report a change, accident or offence for taxi licensing

Accident

If you're licensed by us, you need to report accidents within 72 hours that involve a hackey carriage or private hire vehicle, where the damage materially affects the:

  • safety performance or appearance of the vehicle
  • comfort or convenience of persons in the vehicle

This includes all accidents whether on the public highway or on private premises.

Address

You need to let us know if you change your home or business address within 7 days, even if it's temporary:

  • drivers need to provide an updated driving licence. 
  • vehicle owners need to provide updated V5 and insurance documents

If you need a copy of your taxi licence showing your new address, there will be a charge. Get in contact with us for charges and payment information.

Name

You need to let us know if you change your name within 7 days.

  • license holders need to provide evidence of the name change (e.g. marriage certificate or deed poll).
  • drivers need to provide an updated driving licence.
  • vehicle owners need to provide updated V5 and insurance documents

Offence

Drivers need to provide full details of offences within 7 days, including:

  • any conviction
  • any driving convictions or points on the driver's driving licence
  • binding over
  • caution
  • warning
  • arrest for any matter (whether or not charged)
  • fixed penalty notice
  • community protection notice
  • injunction
  • restraining order
  • any other penalty imposed 

If it isn't reported, we can take further action against the licence.

Drivers also need to tell us within seven days if any action has been taken by anyone else who has issued them a licence and include if they have been suspended or revoked.

Private hire operator

The driver needs to tell us within 7 days if they have started to or been employed to drive a private hire vehicle including the:

  • name of the proprietor (licensee) of the vehicle
  • operator of the vehicle (if different)
  • date this started

Drivers also need to tell us within 7 days if this ends.
