Specialist moving and handling
We provide support to help you move safely and comfortably in your home. Our aim is to promote independence, dignity and wellbeing by offering practical advice and equipment tailored to your individual needs.
What we do
Under the Care Act (2014), everyone has the right to a free assessment of their care and support needs.
As part of our service, we:
- carry out person-centred assessments to understand your moving and handling needs
- focus on promoting choice, independence, and dignity
- work with you to build on your existing strengths and abilities
- encourage active participation in achieving your personal goals
- undertake a holistic risk assessment to ensure any support provided is safe and appropriate
Following your assessment, we will work with you to develop a moving and handling plan. This will outline how you can be supported to move safely, and what equipment (if any) may be recommended.
Equipment
If your assessment identifies a need for equipment, we may be able to provide this on a loan basis, free of charge.
Common examples of equipment include:
- bed management systems
- transfer aids and hoists
- specialist beds
- pressure care equipment
- low-level daily living aids
- other specialist equipment where necessary and where criteria are met
Home adaptations
Where appropriate, we may recommend adaptations to your home to support safe movement and independence.
- Minor adaptations – such as grab rails or stair rails – may be provided following assessment.
- Major adaptations – including changes like level access showers or stairlifts – may also be available where assessed needs meet the relevant criteria.
