Major adaptations
If you own your own home, privately rent, rent from a housing provider or are a NNC housing tenant, you could make some adaptations to your home. If you live in a rented property, you may still be able to make these changes but you'll need your landlord's permission.
Major adaptations are works which cost more than £1,000.
Examples are:
- level access showers
- stairlifts
- medium and large-sized ramps
- widening of doorways
Everyone is entitled to an assessment. These assessment can be completed in many different ways, if you anticipate funding your work privately you can seek a private Occupational Therapy assessment from the Royal College of Occupational Therapy.
Costs
For owner occupiers, private rental tenants and Housing Association tenants, you may be eligible to apply for grant funding for major adaptations that fall within the Disabled Facilities Grant criteria.
NNC Housing tenants can also be assessed for major adaptations; recommendations will be made directly to the NNC Housing Adaptations team where they will make further assessment based on their own policy.
Request an adaptation
We are able to assess for major adaptations and make recommendations where needed.
