Single-handed care

We support people with complex care needs by promoting safe, effective, and person-centred care that enables greater independence. Our team works closely with individuals, families, and care providers to ensure care is delivered to a high standard and tailored to individual strengths.

What we do

Using a strengths-based approach, we assess the quality and appropriateness of care provided, with a focus on ensuring:

  • care is proportionate to the person's needs
  • independence, dignity, and choice are promoted
  • the care environment is suitable for safe and effective support

Our team provides:

  • expert advice and guidance on complex moving and handling situations
  • support for care providers and family members involved in delivering care
  • collaborative working with providers to help ensure high-quality care outcomes
  • access to the latest equipment that supports both comfort and dignity
  • training and support so carers feel confident using equipment correctly and safely

Practical demonstrations

Modern approaches to moving and handling mean that, in many cases, care can be safely delivered by one carer rather than two. This is known as single-handed care.

We offer regular reviews and practical demonstrations of single-handed care techniques to ensure that:

  • the person receiving care remains as independent as possible
  • carers are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need
  • care delivery is safe, respectful, and efficient
