Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) project

North Northamptonshire Council is working with Connected Kerb to expand the public electric vehicle (EV) charging network across the area.

More than 1,500 charging sockets will be installed in council car parks and on streets across North Northamptonshire over the next 3 to 5 years. Find the first chargepoints which became available in July 2026.

The project will help residents and businesses access EV charging closer to home and support the growing demand for electric vehicles.

Funding

The project is funded by £2.895 million from the government's Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund and private investment from Connected Kerb.

Project delivery

Connected Kerb is delivering the project on behalf of the council. This includes planning and designing charging locations, installing and maintaining chargepoints, and operating the charging network.

New chargepoint locations

We publish planned works and installation dates on LEVI project delivery programme.

Suggest a location using the Register your interest form. Suggestions will be shared with Connected Kerb. 

When assessing locations, we consider:

• local demand
• road safety
• pavement and road width
• existing parking restrictions
• nearby bus stops and dropped kerbs
• trees and underground services
• access to the electricity network
• existing and planned EV charging facilities

We prioritise areas where residents do not have access to off-street parking. We also work to make sure rural communities benefit from the programme.

Planning new locations

Before deciding whether a proposed charging location should go ahead, we ask nearby residents for feedback.

We deliver information postcards to properties near proposed sites. These explain the scheme and include a link to an online survey. We also notify town and parish councils, and local ward councillors.

If you complete the survey, you can choose to receive updates on whether the site has been approved, deferred or rejected.

We consider local feedback alongside technical and operational requirements before making a decision. The final decision is made by the Director for Assets and Environment and the Executive Member for Highways and Travel.

Using a public EV chargepoint

Public chargepoints in North Northamptonshire are operated by Believ and Connected Kerb.

Visit the operator's website for guidance on locating a chargepoint, starting and stopping a charging session and making payments.

Both operators also provide mobile apps for Apple and Android devices.

Charging cost

Charging costs vary depending on the chargepoint operator, location and type of charger. Check the latest prices on the operator's website or mobile app before charging.

You can also compare charging costs using independent services such as Zapmap.

Parking restrictions

We do not currently plan to introduce parking restrictions where chargepoints are installed directly outside homes.

At some locations, we may consider introducing parking spaces reserved for EV charging. If this happens, we will carry out a separate Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) consultation before making a decision. Unless a TRO is in place, any vehicle can park in the space.

We will monitor how chargepoints are used and whether vehicles are preventing access to charging facilities. If restrictions are needed in the future, we will consult residents and follow the statutory TRO process.
