Primary school place offers

Find out where your child has been allocated a school place

All parents who applied for their child's place in Reception (or year 3 place in a junior school) by the deadline of 15 January 2024 will receive an offer of a school place for their child in one of two ways:

  • Online: Offers were emailed on 16 April 2024
  • Paper form: Offer letters were posted on 16 April 2024

After you receive the offer of a primary, infant or junior school place for your child

If the school is:

  • within Northamptonshire - we will assume that you have accepted this offer unless you let us know that it is no longer required
  • situated outside of Northamptonshire - you should contact the school directly to check whether you need to formally accept the place for your child

If you have made alternative arrangements for your child's schooling please let us know as soon as possible that the place is no longer required and why by emailing [email protected].

Options if you are not happy with the school place offered

For a small number of families we regret that we have been unable to offer your child a place at your preferred school. When there are more children applying for a school than there are places available (known as the published admission number or PAN), the oversubscription criteria are used to determine which children should be allocated a place.

If your child has not been offered a place at your preferred school(s), it means that the school filled up to its PAN with children who had a higher priority than your child within the oversubscription criteria.

Places allocated

The breakdowns below show how places were allocated at each primary, infant and junior school on:

  • National Offer Day (16 April 2024)
  • the first round of re-allocations that started on 20 May 2024
  • the second round of re-allocations that began on 24 June 2024
  • the final round that began on 8 July 2024

Adding your child's name to a waiting list

You may add your child's name to a waiting list for any school where you have been refused a place. You must have applied for this school on your original application.

To add your child's name to the waiting list, please:

  • email [email protected] or
  • write to: School Admissions, North Northamptonshire Council, Tithe Barn Office Block, Tithe Barn Road, Wellingborough, NN8 1BN

Please do not call us - you will be asked to put your request in writing.

Include your child's name and date of birth otherwise it will cause a delay in your request being processed.

For schools with foundation, voluntary aided or academy status your request will be forwarded to the school if they hold their own waiting lists.

To add your child's name to a waiting list for a school outside of Northamptonshire, you should contact the Admissions team in the local authority where the school is situated.

If a place becomes available at your preferred school

Any places that become available at community or voluntary controlled schools after the first round of allocations (16 April) or places that still remain will be reallocated on a monthly basis within the additional rounds of allocation.

All those on the waiting list, those who have submitted late applications and those who have submitted an appeal will be considered against the oversubscription criteria for the school.

Most foundation, voluntary aided and academy schools will also allocate any available places on these dates.

If you have been successful in gaining a place in one of these rounds, you will be notified in writing. You do not need to contact us, we will let you know.

Waiting list

Waiting lists must be kept until at least 31 December 2024. Names placed on a waiting list between will be cleared at the end of December 2024 unless you contact us in writing (before 31 December 2024) to renew your request for the spring term.

Foundation, voluntary aided and academy schools hold their own waiting lists. You should check with the school directly for their waiting list policy.

Request a place at a school that still has places available

Some schools have places remaining. To find out which schools have places available download the document above relevant to your area of the county.

If you wish to be considered for a place at a school which still has places available, you should complete the late application online form .

If you have already received a school offer and choose to submit a further application, we will not contact you before processing the application. Any new school place will automatically be allocated and any original school place will be reallocated to another child.

Should you wish to withdraw an unprocessed application prior to a reallocation round, please email [email protected] to advise this, providing your child's full name, date of birth and details of the application you wish to withdraw.

The allocation process can take several weeks, depending on how many applications are received.

There is no need to contact us after completing the form - we will contact you once a decision has been made.

How places are allocated

Any available places will be reallocated on a monthly basis within the additional rounds of allocation taking place between May and July 2024. Places are not allocated on a first come, first served basis.

If there are more requests than there are places available, these will be allocated using the schools' oversubscription admission criteria. Therefore there is no guarantee that a place will be allocated. You will not be able to decline your existing offer of a place on this basis.

Appeal the decision to refuse your child a school place

You have the right to appeal against the decision not to offer your child a place at any of the schools where your child has been refused a place. If you choose to appeal you will need to complete an online appeal form, or request a paper appeal form in writing from the Admissions Authority of the relevant school.

Read our Primary, Infant and Junior school allocations appeals for September 2024 for further information.

Late applications

Late applications are applications received after 15 January 2024 and these are dealt with in rounds. There is a deadline for applications to be submitted by to be included in each round. Each reallocation process can take a number of weeks, depending on how many applications are received.

Emails will be sent to all late applicants who apply online. We will only inform parents of children on a waiting list if we are able to offer a place. Otherwise, their child's name will remain on the waiting list for the next round.

There is no need to contact us after completing a late application form, or on the process start date - we will contact you once an offer has been made.
