Statement of reasons 2057
North Northamptonshire Council Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984
North Northamptonshire Council (Denford Village) (20 and 30 miles per hour speed limit) Order 2025
Statement of reasons
The purpose of the proposed Order is to introduce a 20 miles per hour speed limit on a number of roads within Denford Village, with the remainder of Denford Road subject to a 30 miles per hour speed limit.
The proposed 20 miles per hour limit seeks to:
- improve road safety for all users, particularly in the village centre where pedestrian activity is high
- create a safer environment near residential properties, local amenities, and village facilities
- encourage lower vehicle speeds on narrow roads with limited footways
- reduce the likelihood and severity of collisions
- support sustainable travel choices by making walking and cycling more attractive
The 30 miles per hour limit on Denford Road will provide a transitional buffer between the new 20 miles per hour and the existing higher speed limits beyond the village, ensuring consistency with Department for Transport guidance and improving compliance.
In summary, the council considers that the introduction of the Order will:
- avoid danger to persons or other traffic using the roads or any other road, or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising (Section 1(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984)
- preserve or improve the amenities of the area through which the roads run (Section 1(1)(f) of the Act)
