Draft order P2204

Statement of reasons P2204

North Northamptonshire Council Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984

The North Northamptonshire Council (Station Road Area, Rushton) (20 mph and 30 mph speed limits) Order 2026

Statement of reasons

North Northamptonshire Council proposes to make the above Order under Sections 82, 83, and 84 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended.

The purpose of the Order is to introduce a 20 and a 30 miles per hour speed limit on those sections of road specified in the Schedule below and as detailed in the draft Order.

This measure is considered necessary for the following reasons:

  • To avoid danger to persons or other road users, or to prevent the likelihood of such danger arising, particularly due to changes in road geometry, increased traffic volumes, and historic collision data
  • To preserve or improve the amenities of the area by reducing vehicle speeds, which can contribute to lower noise levels and environmental impacts
  • To support the Council’s wider duty to promote safe and efficient movement on the highway network, especially at transition points between rural and more developed areas

This proposal forms part of the Council’s ongoing speed limit review programme, which seeks to enhance road safety while maintaining appropriate traffic flow and responding to changing highway conditions.
