Discretionary discount

A discretionary discount may reduce your council tax bill if you have experienced an unforeseen or exceptional hardship that means:

• You don’t have the ability to pay your council tax bill

or

• You may not be able to stay in your home

You must meet certain eligibility criteria as this discount is funded through our own funds:

You need to apply for any other benefit or discount you may be entitled to such as:

• single person discount
• student discount
• council tax support
• severe mental impairment discount

If you're entitled and haven't applied, we can't consider your claim for discretionary discount.
