Discretionary discount

Direct debits

We're updating our council tax account numbers as we merge systems from 4 into 1. When we do this, we will update your direct debit details automatically:

  • you won't need to take action
  • the date the direct debit is taken won't change
  • the amount won't change

We've recently updated council tax accounts in the Kettering area and sent letters which will provide full information.

A discretionary discount may reduce your council tax bill if you have experienced an unforeseen or exceptional hardship that means:

  • You don’t have the ability to pay your council tax bill

or

  • You may not be able to stay in your home

Applicants must meet certain eligibility criteria as this discount is funded through North Northamptonshire Council’s own funds. This is outlined in the Council Tax Discretionary Discount policy.

Before you apply

Make sure you have applied for any other benefit or discount you may be entitled to such as single person discount, student discount, council tax support or severe mental impairment discount. If you are entitled to these and haven't yet applied, we can not consider your claim for discretionary discount.
