What goes in which bin

Recycling

We now use black bins with a green lid for loose recycling. Historically, we used different colours depending on the area which are still being used:

  • Corby area: Blue and brown bins
  • East Northamptonshire area: Black with a green lid
  • Kettering area: Blue bins
  • Wellingborough area: Green bins
Extra recycling

Recycling should be loose and not bagged. We will take extra recycling if it is in an open cardboard box or clear bag, placed next to your recycling bin in dry conditions.

We accept:

  • cardboard (including card packaging, cereal boxes, greetings cards)
  • glass (clean and empty bottles and jars)
  • cans (clean food, drink and pet food cans, emptied aerosols)
  • foil (yoghurt tops, wrappers, clean takeaway trays)
  • paper (letters, envelopes, newspapers, magazines and catalogues, non-foil wrapping paper (shredded paper should go into the general refuse bin or composted at home))
  • plastic bottles (all colours, shapes and sizes) - remove lid, wash and squash and replace lid
  • plastic pots, tubs and trays (such as yogurt pots, fruit and vegetable trays, sauce or soup pots, punnets and margarine or spread tubs) - make sure items are clean

We don't accept:

  • cellophane, plastic wrapping or foil gift wrapping
  • cling film
  • crisp packets
  • electrical goods
  • food waste
  • knives
  • nappies
  • plastic bags
  • polystyrene
  • hard plastics such as buckets, storage boxes and toys
  • textiles.
