About Adult Learning Service

North Northamptonshire Council Adult Learning Service provides learning opportunities for adults aged 19+, across both North and West Northamptonshire.

Offering courses that support people to gain skills so that they can progress in the world of work, and that support the independence and wellbeing of families and communities.

The service also offers a Study Programme for learners aged 16 to 19 as an alternative to other further education routes.

Our mission and vision

Our mission

To provide learning opportunities for adults in Northamptonshire in order for them to develop their skills and their wellbeing for themselves, their families and their communities.

Our vision

Every adult in Northamptonshire has the opportunity to gain the skills they need to progress in the world of work, support their children to have the best start in life and improve their own confidence and wellbeing.

We recognise that a wide range of learning opportunities, that reflect and respond to a diverse range of community needs, can:

  • increase economic prosperity
  • improve health
  • reduce dependence
  • empower communities

Learner success stories

Learning can change lives and we love to hear about where people have progressed to after taking a course with us. Below are just some of the feedback and quotes from our learners.

Ruth’s story

I have now had a visit from the climate change forum of Northampton town council as they would like to replicate our community back-alley garden in all alleys in the area and reduce fly tipping.

This is all because of Adult Learning gardening courses. None of this would have happened without the courses I've been on.

Sarah’s story

It has completely changed the way my life is going. Every person has been inspired from the courses. I feel like all the teachers are so patient and encouraging, knowing that all of us were beginners.

I’ve also made some really good friends who I’m keeping in touch with, including from the golf course who I play golf with locally. I think to myself, 18 months ago, if that brochure hadn’t come through my door where would I be now.

Jeanette’s story

It has given me such a lot of confidence. At first, I thought I wasn’t very good, now I know that I am not rubbish and I am really loving my art. The course has really given me the awareness to go out into the community to exhibit my art.

Now I support the local community a lot and have my work on show locally and at exhibitions.
