Essential highway improvements planned for Higham Road, Rushden
Roads and paths29 July 2026

North Northamptonshire Council will begin a programme of essential drainage improvements and road resurfacing works on Higham Road, Rushden, from Monday 3 August to Saturday 12 September.
The scheme will improve drainage infrastructure and refresh the road surface, helping to maintain the condition and safety of the road for residents, businesses and road users.
To enable the works to take place safely, road closures will be in place throughout:
- Drainage improvements – Monday 3 August to Friday 28 August. Works between the hours of 8am - 5pm. Road closure will remain in place 24/7.
- Road resurfacing – Friday 28 August – Saturday 12 September. Works and road closure between the hours of 8pm and 6am
Emergency vehicle access will be maintained where it is safe to do so. During the resurfacing phase, access for residents and businesses will be maintained where possible, although delays are expected and some motorists may need to approach properties via alternative routes. Bus operators have been informed and will make alternative arrangements as required.
These essential improvements to Higham Road will help address drainage issues and provide a renewed road surface for the benefit of everyone who uses this route.Cllr Chris McGiffen, North Northamptonshire Council’s Executive Member for Highways and Travel
We appreciate that road closures can cause inconvenience and would like to thank residents, businesses and motorists for their patience while these important works are carried out. The works will help ensure the road remains safe, reliable and fit for the future.
Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place throughout the works, and motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and follow the signed diversions. Residents are also reminded not to park within the designated works area.
Further information about any roadworks across the area are available on the highways pages.
