UK Youth Parliament

Youth Parliament (Making our mark)

The UK Youth Parliament is a youth organisation run by young people for young people.

There are 369 seats for elected MYPs (Members of Youth Parliament). MYPs are usually elected in youth elections throughout the UK once every 2 years. Any young person aged 11 to 18 can stand or vote.

MYPs organise events and projects, run campaigns and speak up for (and on behalf of) young people at a local and national level by:

  • identifying and tackling issues considered important by young people
  • helping to make sure that young people’s voices shape services and facilities locally and nationally, to reflect what young people want and need
  • seeking the views of young people and promoting opportunities to get involved in the democratic process and have their say
  • supporting and promoting the work of UK Youth Parliament and the North Northamptonshire Youth Advisory Council through local and national initiatives

They meet once or twice per year at the UK Youth Parliament Annual Sitting (which can be held at Westminster).

North Northamptonshire

Our area will elect 2 MYPs, who will work with the MYPs elected in West Northamptonshire.

2 Deputy Members of Youth Parliament (DMYP) will also be elected from the Youth Advisory Council on a yearly basis to support the work of our MYPs.

Support

North Northamptonshire Youth Parliament Members are supported by our Children's service Engagement and Participation team alongside Northamptonshire Clubs for Young People, who attend meetings and organise activities.
