Independent Member - Audit and Governance Committee

North Northamptonshire Council is seeking two Independent Members to join its Audit and Governance Committee.
This is an opportunity to use your professional experience and independent judgement to contribute to the governance of a large public organisation. Working alongside elected councillors, you will help oversee risk management, audit, financial reporting and governance arrangements, providing constructive challenge and independent assurance.
We are looking for people who:
- have experience in finance, audit, governance, risk management, regulation, assurance, senior leadership, or a related field
- can analyse complex information and exercise sound judgement
- are confident asking constructive questions and challenging appropriately
- have a strong interest in accountability, transparency and good governance
Local government experience is welcome but not essential. We are interested in transferable skills and independent thinking.
Role duties
You will participate as a full voting member of the Audit and Governance Committee, contributing your independent perspective to its work.
Job details:
- Two vacancies
- Four-year term of office
- Full voting rights as a co-opted member of the Committee
- Approximately six meetings per year, plus preparation time and training
- Meetings are normally held during the daytime
- Allowance: £400 per meeting attended
- Travel expenses payable in accordance with the council's approved arrangements
