Draft order P2198

Statement of reasons P2198

North Northamptonshire Council Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984

North Northamptonshire Council (Park Farm Way, Wellingborough) (40 miles per hour speed limit) Order 2026

Statement of reasons

North Northamptonshire Council proposes to make the above Order under Section 84 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to introduce a 40 miles per hour speed limit on the length of A509 Park Farm Way, Wellingborough, as specified in the Schedule.

The proposed speed limit is required in connection with the provision of a signal-controlled pedestrian crossing on A509 Park Farm Way. The reduction from the existing national speed limit to 40 miles per hour is necessary to ensure that the crossing operates within an appropriate speed environment and to provide suitable visibility and stopping distances for road users.

The proposal will assist in improving road safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, facilitate the safe and efficient movement of traffic, and ensure that the speed limit is appropriate to the character and function of the road at this location. It will also support compliance with the requirements associated with the proposed controlled crossing.

The Council considers that the proposed 40 miles per hour speed limit is necessary, proportionate and expedient in the interests of road safety and the safe movement of traffic.
