Weeds
Our Highways team treats some footpaths, kerbs and roadside areas twice a year to help prevent weeds from damaging the highway.
Where appropriate, approved herbicides are used in accordance with guidance from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). If weeds become established, they may also be removed by hand or cut back.
Helping the environment
In the Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough areas, we aim to minimise chemical use wherever possible to support pollinators and local biodiversity. Chemical treatment is generally targeted at weeds growing on footpaths and hard surfaces.

Areas outside Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough
In many areas outside Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough, town and parish councils are responsible for weeds control in parks, open spaces, play areas and other land they manage.
