Councillor Barbara Jenney is the current Chair of North Northamptonshire Council. She is supported by the Vice Chair, Councillor Lora Lawman

The Chair is elected annually to the role of Civic Head of the Council at the Annual Council meeting in May. They have a responsibility to chair and preside over Full Council meetings, ensuring they run effectively and efficiently.

The Chair holds a politically impartial role.


They also attend civic and ceremonial events as well as other functions including graduation ceremonies, church services and charity events.

This year Councillor Jenney is supporting two local charities as part of her role as Chairman of the Council:

  • Encompass - a charity that supports food banks in Rushden, Raunds and Thrapston. It also provides homeless provision in Rushden, as well as a Recovery House, to help those suffering addition to turn their lives around
  • RUSH 2The DEN - a dual charity which offers a much-needed life line to parents/carers and young people. For adults, it is a place where they can relax and enjoy quality time with their little ones, building a support network and chatting with friends. For children it offers an extensive programme for babies, tots and pre-school (under 5's) with sessions during the school day on a drop-in basis. Plus various activities that meet the needs of all who wish to attend between 5 and 17 years old
