Just like your budgets, we have money coming in and money going out. Our budget gives an insight of how we are funded, what we spend money on and the challenges we face.

Budget highlights 2025/26

Some highlights from our budget include: 

  • investing £51.8m to protect vital services and deliver service improvements
  • nearly £23.7m in adult social care, and over £6.2m in our children’s services, reflecting our commitment to those in the community who are more vulnerable and in need of support
  • continuing to make savings, efficiencies and generate income totalling £26.3m to help fund improvements in local services
  • retaining council tax support at 25%

As well as investing in services year-on-year, the council is also making significant longer-term investments in the area too. This year we will progress the delivery of a capital investment programme totalling £208.5m over a four-year period from 2025 to 2029. This investment includes: 

  • £59.3m on highways improvement
  • £36.6m for improving council housing
  • £29.4m investment in primary and secondary school expansion programmes, providing more school places and special educational needs and disability (SEND) provision.
  • £23m improving accommodation for vulnerable children in care
  • £8.1m on facilities for people with a disability
  • £6.3m in improving digital infrastructure
  • £2.6m for Electrical Vehicle infrastructure
