Appealing rates and revaluations

The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) determines the rateable value of a business property and changes it if needed. You can challenge the rateable value shown if you disagree with the VOA’s decision.

If you want to authorise an agent to act on your behalf, then you can appoint one using a Business Rates Valuation Account.

2023 values

If you believe your 2023 rateable value is too high, get in touch with the VOA using a Business Rates Valuation Account after 1 April 2023, which is the point the future valuation legally takes effect and can be challenged.

Please continue to make payments. If your rateable value is subsequently reduced and you have overpaid your business rates, then you can request a refund.
