Carers' breaks
As a carer, there may be occasions when you need a break from your caring role.
Breaks
A carers' break looks different for many people, it could be:
- short amounts of time away from the home and cared for person (e.g. a regular slot once a week for two hours, a weekend away or an ad hoc social event)
- attending a support or social group in person or online
- accessing to leisure opportunities
- the cared for person accessing a befriending service
Accessing
You can access a break if you care for a friend or relative.
Northamptonshire Carers will assess your needs and discuss your outcomes (a carer's assessment). The assessment helps to consider the best way to support you in your caring role.
If an assessment finds you to be eligible, arrangements can be made for you to access a carers’ break.
If you need any advice on this you can contact us on 0300 126 3000.
