Carers' breaks

As a Carer, there may be occasions when you need a break from your caring role.

A carers' break looks different for many people, it could be:

  • short amounts of time away from the home and cared for person for example – a regular slot once a week for two hours / a weekend away/ an ad hoc social event
  • attending a support or social group in person, or online
  • accessing to leisure opportunities
  • the cared for person accessing a befriending service

Accessing carers' breaks

You can access a carers' break if you care for a friend or relative.

Northamptonshire Carers will assess your needs and discuss your outcomes, this is known as a carer's assessment. The assessment helps to consider the best way to support you in your caring role.

If an assessment finds you to be eligible, arrangements can be made for you to access a carers’ break.
