Polling district and polling place review

Handing in postal votes

Changes to the law mean you need to fill in a return form if you hand deliver your postal vote to us and limit how many postal votes you can return on behalf of others

Polling district and polling place review

We are reviewing all polling districts, places and polling stations used across North Northamptonshire from 2 October to make sure that (within reason):

  • there are reasonable facilities for everyone to vote
  • these facilities are accessible for disabled people
  • when we consider or review a polling place, the accessibility needs for disabled people are taken into account

Our review will cover our Parliamentary constituencies, which currently have these arrangements:

Maps to all polling districts are available on request.

The consultation closed on 30 October 2023 and any changes will be implemented on 1 December 2023.

The law says a review must be conducted between 1 October 2023 and 31 January 2025.

Boundary changes

Our review will be based on existing parliamentary constituency boundaries - but we won't be making changes to existing ward boundaries or Parliamentary constituency boundaries.

A review of Parliamentary Constituency boundaries was undertaken by the Boundary Commission for England.

You can view an interactive map of proposed changes.

Review

We will publish notice of the review.

Any elector in a constituency situated in whole or in part of our area can have a say and suggestions of alternative polling places can be made.

We will seek views from people who have expertise or knowledge about disabled people accessing premises or facilities - this includes community groups, councillors, parish councils, current polling station booking agents, former polling station staff and groups representing disabled people within the area.

Our (Acting) Returning Officer will provide information to the review - including the location of existing and proposed polling stations - these representations must be published within 30 calendar days of receipt.

We also need to consult the (Acting) Returning Officer in any constituency which is wholly or partly in their area. We will be consulting with the (Acting) Returning Officer for West Northamptonshire Council for the area of the Daventry constituency, which falls within North Northamptonshire.

On completion, we must give reasons for decisions in the review and publish other required information.

Terminology

  • A polling district is the geographical area created by the sub-division of a parliamentary constituency or ward into smaller areas
  • A polling place is the building or area in which a polling station is located
  • A polling station is the room or area within the polling place where voting takes place
