Growing project
The Growing Project has transformed a disused bowling green in the Coronation Park into a vibrant inclusive community hub.
Get involved and help shape a greener, more sustainable future. Whether you're into food growing, Forest School sessions, yoga, wellbeing workshops, or youth activities, there's something for everyone.
In 2024 alone, over 1,000 people took part, contributing more than 6,000 volunteer hours to bring the space to life.
Projects

Grow beds
The site includes 75 indoor beds, 24 large outdoor beds, and 72 microbeds used to grow fresh produce which supports local foodbanks and community causes

Community events
Regular community events are hosted at the park, which showcase the many opportunities on offer to local groups and individuals. We want to host growers’ markets to promote local food systems – please contact us if you are interested in becoming involved!

Involving Schools
Please contact us if you are interested in renting your own growing bed! A fantastic way of teaching children about healthy eating and food origins

Engaging communities
Free or low-cost access to growing spaces, tools, and training, making it easy for everyone to get involved. With outreach work supporting other community sites, helping to spread the model to areas with limited green space

Connect with nature
Forest School sessions and outdoor learning activities connect children and families with nature, encouraging physical activity and supporting emotional wellbeing

Wellbeing and mindfulness
Woodcraft and green woodworking provide practical, mindful experiences that build focus, creativity, and hand skills. Wellbeing groups and informal gardening sessions provide low pressure, social environments that support mental health

Volunteering
Volunteer roles are designed to be accessible and flexible, accommodating different abilities and backgrounds to help train individuals and support with employability
