Accessibility at our Country Parks
Our country parks are designed to be welcoming and easy to access for everyone.
This page gives you key information about the facilities and services available for visitors with accessibility needs.
Parking
Parking spaces are available, with three on the right and one on the left as you enter. All car parks are pay and display, including for blue badge holders. The accessible spaces are no more than 20 meters from the machine.
Trails
Barnwell Country Park has 3 trails. The paths are mostly compacted stone and about 1.5 meters wide, but they can be uneven because of the natural landscape. There are no steep sections, and benches are placed along the trails.
Toilets
A Changing place toilet is available with separate male and female toilets with step-free access, as well as a larger toilet with a slope.
Café
The café is behind the visitor center, about 40 meters from the accessible parking spots. It has counter service, with seating both indoors and outdoors, and a ramp for easy access to the decking and covered area.
Play areas
The toddler play area is next to the café, with a woodchip surface and a gate 115 cm wide. The main play area is about 60 meters from the accessible parking, with surfaces like grass, sand, and woodchip. You can reach it through a gate that’s 134 cm wide.

There are 7 accessible parking spaces: 2 at the entrance and 5 by the main parking area. Parking is free.
Trails
East Carlton Countryside Park has 3 trails, mostly on compacted stone paths that are about 1 meter wide where possible. The paths may be uneven because of the park's natural landscape, and some trails have steep sections. Benches are available throughout the park.
Toilets
East Carlton Countryside Park has a Changing Place facility.
Café
The café is 80 meters from the accessible parking spaces. It offers counter service with both indoor and outdoor seating. You can enter through a 1-meter wide door, which can open fully to about 3 meters wide.
Play areas
he play area at East Carlton Countryside Park is across from the café. It has grass and sand surfaces and is accessed by a tarmac path and a gate that is 1.2 meters wide.

Parking
There are 3 accessible parking spaces in the main care park located in front of the café, on the left as you enter the park. All car parks are pay and display, including for blue badge holders. The pay and display machine is approximately 120m from the accessible parking.
Trails
There are 3 waymarked trails using paths that are mainly compacted stone and in places soft track. Where possible the paths are approximately 1.8m wide. Due to the natural landscape of the park the paths may be uneven, with some of the marked paths having steep sections. There are benches throughout the park.
Toilets
A Changing place toilet is available with separate male and female toilets with step-free access.
Café
The café is located approximately 28m from the café car parks accessible parking spaces and 110m from the main car park accessible parking. The café is accessed through external doors that are 0.9m when one is open and 1.6m when both are open, the internal doors are 0.6 when one is open and 1.5m when both are open. It is a counter service facility with indoor and outdoor seating. Due to the natural landscape of the park, there is a slope up to the café.
Play areas
There are 2 play areas. The toddler play area is located near the toilets. The surface is woodchip and accessed through a gate that is 1.4m.
The main play area is accessed through a gate that is 1.4m wide. The area has mixed surfaces including grass, woodchip and sand.

Parking
The café car park has 5 accessible parking spaces. To find it, follow the road into the park until you reach the buildings, then turn left at the junction.
All car parks are pay and display, including for blue badge holders. The pay and display machine is 45 meters from the accessible spaces.
Trails
There are 4 marked trails with mostly compacted stone paths. The paths are at least 2 meters wide where possible, but they may be uneven in places and some have steep sections due to the natural landscape. Benches are located about every 200 meters along the trails.
Toilets
A Changing place toilet is available and is accessed by a ramp or three steps.
There are separate male and female toilets on ground level accessed from outside.
Café
The café is close to the accessible parking. It offers counter service, with indoor seating that you can reach via a slope. The entrance is through double doors.
Play areas
The play area is located near the toilets and has mostly grass and sand. You can access it through a gate that is 1 meter wide.
To find the Ant Nest and Buzzard play areas, follow the Woodland Trail. Both areas have a woodchip surface.

Parking
Sywell Country Park has 2 car parks. The Upper car park gives easy access to the reservoir path. The lower car park is closer to the café and toilets. You can walk up to the reservoir from the lower car park, but the paths are steep because of the park's natural landscape.
The upper car park has 5 accessible parking spaces at the far end, near the pay and display machines. The lower car park has 2 accessible spaces near the pay and display machines.
All car parks are pay and display, including for blue badge holders.
Trails
The trails are mostly hard-surfaced with seats and resting places every 200 metres. There are a number of steeper gradients in the park but the paths generally have a gradient of less than 1:15.
If using a wheelchair, a RADAR key is required to open the gates on the reservoir trail. Please close and lock gates after passing through.
Toilets
There are separate male, female and accessible toilets, all with step free access and baby change facilities.
Café
The café is 20 meters from the accessible parking spaces in the lower car park. It offers counter service with indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor seating is at the back of the café, accessed through a 1-meter wide door.
Play areas
Sywell Country Park has 4 play areas. The Filter Bed play area is near the lower car park, with a sand surface and accessed by a 1.3-meter wide slope.
The Brock Wood play area is closer to the upper car park, about 100 meters from the accessible parking. The surface here is a mix of compacted stone and natural woodland.
The Waterworks play area is 30 meters from the accessible parking in the lower car park and has a bound stone surface.
There is also a small indoor soft play area for toddlers in the building behind the café.
