Assets of Community Value

Right to bid

If an Asset of Community Value comes up for sale, parish councils or community groups with a local connection can make a bid to buy it on the open market.

Listing an asset

If an owner wants to market their property, they need to email [email protected] about their intention. This triggers an interim moratorium of six weeks.

We will advise the original nominator of the asset and publicise on our website that community groups can consider placing a bid.

Placing an offer

If a community group wants to place an offer, the moratorium period is extended to six months from the date of the owner's notice, to enable the group to develop a bid and offer to purchase.

Selling the asset

Following the end of six month period, the owner is free to dispose of their asset without further delay within 12 months. This is called the ‘Protected Period’.
