Bus funding
The Local Authority Bus Subsidy Ring-Fenced (Revenue) Grant is paid by the Department for Transport to local authorities. This is in place of the Bus Services Operators Grant, previously paid to bus operators for running services under tender to local authorities.
The grant may be used for the purposes of supporting bus services (including community transport services run under a section 19 permit). It may also be used for the provision of infrastructure supporting such services in our, or a neighbouring local transport authority's area.
In 2023, 2024 and 2025, North Northamptonshire Council received £110,728. This is used to supplement the council’s own budget for supporting bus services to enable existing supported services to continue or to additionally support services which have been withdrawn by commercial operators.
Bus Service Improvement Plan funding
Local authorities receive funding from government to assist with the implementation of their Bus Service Improvement Plans (BSIPs). North Northamptonshire Council has been allocated this funding as follows:
Year | Amount | Funding type |
---|---|---|
2023/24 | £569,412 | revenue funding |
2024/25 | £2,614,412 | revenue funding |
2025/26 | £2,410,459 | revenue funding |
£2,588,702 | capital funding |
This funding has been used to allow the introduction of a number of new bus services across Northamptonshire, together with the restoration of some services which had been withdrawn by commercial operators. Full details of our spending plans for this funding can be found in our 2025/26 BSIP Delivery Plan below.
