How to apply or reapply
This application is for both first time applications and customers who have an existing Blue Badge. We are unable to automatically renew badges.
We can only assess you based on the information in this application, as we don't have access to previous ones. Make sure your application clearly shows your ability to travel from your vehicle to your destination (for example, from your car to a shop).
Required documents
You will need:
- recent, colour, passport style photo showing a close-up of your head and shoulders taken within the last six months against a pain, light background
- proof of address - Council Tax document for the current tax year, an official letter from an organisation such as HRMC, NHS, benefits agency, local council, a payslip or bank statement – dated within the last 12 months
- proof of identity - valid photo driving license, passport or a birth certificate
- £10 charge payable by credit or debit card
- proof of benefit - your most recent letter including all relevant pages (if you automatically qualify)
- supporting evidence - you can support your application with correspondence from healthcare or educational professionals (if you need an assessment)
- non-visible condition - you will need to upload evidence of diagnosis, treatment or assessments including Education Health and Care Plans (if applicable)
You can scan the required images or documents, or take photos of them using a smartphone, tablet or digital camera. Ensure the full page is captured, including your name and address (if applicable) with text clearly legible and not blurred. Documents that are not clear cannot be used and will be requested again; this may delay the application process.
Apply
Ensure you have all supporting documents ready to upload as you cannot save and return to the application. The applicant's details, ID, and photo must be for the person the badge is for, including those under 18.
To reapply for your badge, you’ll need a photo of your current badge, your badge number and expiry date.
For further assistance contact the Blue Badge Team at [email protected].
Next Steps
Applications are assessed within 6 weeks.
If you do not provide the requested documents within 28 days, your application will be automatically closed, and you will be refunded.
You may be invited to attend a face-to-face or telephone assessment with one of our trained expert assessors to gain further information on how you undertake a journey.
You'll then receive a notification of our decision.
Successful applications
If your application is approved, you will receive your badge within 7 to 10 working days.
Your Blue Badge will be issued for 3 years, or up until the end date of your award letter if you have been issued the award for under 3 years.
You will not automatically receive a reminder to reapply. It is the badge holder's responsibility to apply for a new badge 8 weeks before the expiry date.
