Your Voice Matters… 2nd consultation launched on dog control measures in North Northamptonshire

North Northamptonshire Council has launched a consultation on its existing dog control Public Space Protection Order (PSPO), following feedback received during the initial phase of consultation.

The second consultation focuses on proposed new restrictions and amendments to specific locations only - no other changes to the current PSPO are planned. 

Proposals include:

  • Additional dogs-on-leads requirements at Barnwell Country Park, including around Mill Lake and on selected central pathways.
  • Additional controls at Sywell Country Park.
  • A requirement for dogs to be kept on leads within designated country park car parks.
  • New dog exclusion zones within identified Wildlife Refuge Areas and Educational Wild Zones.
  • A proposal to designate the enclosed recreation and play area at Pytchley Recreation Ground as a dog exclusion zone.
We know that the vast majority of dog owners across North Northamptonshire act responsibly and take pride in caring for both their pets and the local environment.

The first stage of consultation generated some extremely useful feedback, which has helped shape the proposals we're now consulting on. I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to share their views.

As we consider these proposals, it is important that we continue to hear from as many people as possible. The feedback received during this consultation will be considered before any decision is made on changes to the Dog Control PSPO for North Northamptonshire.

The consultation is now live and will run until 14 September 2026 and can be accessed via the council’s consultation hub.
