North Northamptonshire Council will continue its work on the popular Greenway with works starting on a new section on the Ise Lodge in Kettering.

The new section will run from Deeble Road to Grantown Close connecting into the already surfaced route through to Barton Road with works starting on 20 July 2026.

The North Northamptonshire Greenway is an off-road route for walkers, wheelers and cyclists to access work, education, recreation and leisure. The overall plan will see sections of safe routes connecting across the North Northamptonshire area. A major branch will be the Ise Valley Greenway linking up communities from Corby to Wellingborough through Kettering - with this work being the first phase.

The Greenway continues to grow, and I know from speaking to residents just how loved the existing sections are so it is great news that work is starting on this new section.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank residents for their patience whilst works are undertaken - I know the end result will be worth it.
Cllr Greg Wilcox, the council’s Executive Member for Communities
The Greenway is something that we can be truly proud of and the initiative continues to grow from its modest beginnings to something that can be enjoyed by thousands of residents, their families and visitors across North Northamptonshire.Cllr Martin Griffiths, Leader of the Council

As part of the works, a butterfly bank will be created from a large mound of earth excavated during the construction of this new stretch of Greenway. Crescent in shape, the bank will be planted with wildflower seeds to support local winged insects.

The stretch of the Greenway is funded through Homes England capacity funding for the Hanwood Park development to help facilitate or alleviate congestion and encourage active travel in and around the area.

Works are expected to take about 12 weeks to complete and were due to start in late 2025 but have been delayed until now.

More information about the Greenway is available on the North Northamptonshire Council website.
