Like many people locally and across the country, I today watched episode one of the Netflix mini-series 'Toxic Town'.Jason Smithers, Leader of the Council
Although the production is based on events that happened many decades ago, I fully recognise that this new series could reawaken strong feelings amongst individuals and our local communities. People will also naturally seek assurances that such a situation could never be repeated.
The production company and their talented actors are quite rightly telling the story and shinning a light on this tragic episode which caused so much suffering to the families involved and casts a shadow across the wider community.
Although Corby Borough Council no longer exists, as Leader of North Northamptonshire Council, I felt it important to say that we acknowledge the distressing situation that occurred and the regrettable impact that this had on the local community.
What truly stands out is the enduring strength of community, a thread connecting Corby's past and present. The residents' tenacious spirit is a testament to their shared identity and a source of immense pride.
