Positive conversations held on the future of Corby Fireworks
Communities19 August 2026

North Northamptonshire Council are today providing an update on the future of Corby fireworks.
The council recognised that the event is a long-standing and much-valued tradition for local residents, which we would be delighted to see continue in the future.
As part of this, positive conversations have been held with businesses and community groups locally who are exploring opportunities to hold a fireworks display, in or around the town. We are working with them and supporting with advice around issues including health and safety requirements and processes to help with any possible, future event(s).
Like councils across the country, the council faces increasing funding pressures and needs to make difficult decisions to balance funding with priorities.
We are aware of the concern locally about the future of the Corby fireworks and I want to take this opportunity to reassure residents that we have held several, positive conversations with community groups interested in working with us on a future event. These conversations give us genuine optimism that a fireworks event can continue in the future, whether in Corby itself or the surrounding area."Cllr Martin Griffiths, Leader of the Council
I've always been impressed by how well town and parish councils work in providing events in their area, as well as the role other organisations play too in organising events that bring a sense of fun, joy and belonging to those living locally. The Corby Fireworks are unique because the council doesn't directly provide equivalent displays in other towns. We therefore have to ensure that our approach is fair and consistent across North Northamptonshire.
As a council, like many across the country, we are having to make increasingly difficult decisions about how and where the money we get is spent, not to mention the impact that events like this have on the staff and volunteer resource required. We remain committed to supporting any group that wishes to take on the Corby Fireworks and welcome further conversations with interested community organisations.
Further updates will be published in due course.
