Order children’s free school meals now via Parent Portal

Parents and carers in North Northamptonshire, whose children are entitled to free school meals, are being reminded to get them booked via the Parent Portal.

North Northamptonshire Council’s Parent Portal is a secure online platform which brings together key education services in one place.

It is available at www.northnorthants.gov.uk/parentportal 

Parents and carers will need to register on the Parent Portal before using the services.

School pupils can receive free school meals throughout primary and secondary education as long as eligibility criteria are met, including rechecks each year. Eligibility criteria and qualifying benefits for free school meals can be checked on the council’s website. 

Free school meals can help cognitive function, boost classroom focus, and drive better academic results. Additionally, they save low-income households hundreds of pounds annually while improving children’s long-term health and dietary habits.

If your child is eligible for free school meals, I would strongly encourage you to apply through our Parent Portal today. Free school meals ensure children have access to a healthy, nutritious meal during the school day, helping them to concentrate in lessons, support their learning and achieve their full potential. At a time when many families are facing financial pressures, claiming free school meals can also make a real difference to household budgets, saving parents hundreds of pounds each year. The Parent Portal can also be used to:

• Apply for in-year school places.
• Apply for coordinated school places for Reception, Year 3, and Year 7.
• Request an Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessment if there are concerns a child may have Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND).
