North Northamptonshire Council supports Armed Forces Week

Communities

24 June 2024

As part of Armed Forces Week (24 - 29 June) representatives from North Northamptonshire Council have come together to pay tribute to the women and men who protect the United Kingdom and those who came before them.

Earlier today, Armed Forces Day flags were raised at all four of the council offices, with a small ceremony taking place at the Corby office with representatives from Cadet Forces, organisations supporting those in the armed forces community and Council officers who have either served, Reservists or Cadet Force Adult Volunteers attended the event, alongside HM Lord-Lieutenant for Northamptonshire, the Chair of North Northamptonshire Council and representatives from NNC.

Armed Forces Week is a chance for individuals and organisations to show support for all those who make up the Armed Forces community, from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets. Celebrations begin on Monday 24 June when the Armed Forces Day flag is raised on buildings and landmarks across the country.

It was a privilege to attend the flag raising ceremony today and pay tribute to the exceptional men and women from across the Armed Forces community. Speaking to members of the Armed Forces and hearing about the work they do for our country is always eye-opening and an honour.

But it’s not just about today or one week a year, we are committed to supporting and working with our Armed Forces community and their families across the year.
Cllr Lora Lawman, Chair of North Northamptonshire Council
Celebrations begin on Monday 24 June when the Armed Forces Day flag is raised on buildings around the country. The week surrounding Armed Forces Day on 29 June is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces family.

From currently serving troops to service families, veterans, and cadets. Reserves Day on 26 June also provides an opportunity for us all to recognise our Reserve Forces. We should be proud to support our Armed Forces and it is a time when the nation unites to honour the selfless service of the entire Armed Forces family
James Saunders Watson, Lord-Lieutenant of Northamptonshire
