New Cornerstone website launches
Culture and tourism23 September 2024
A new website has been launched showcasing the current offering at Cornerstone, whilst providing updates for residents on a project to replace the Grade 2 listed library roof.
Also launched alongside the website is a new video which provides detail on the roof replacement project, providing residents with information on the complex project as well as a behind the scenes look at the process for mining the slates required for the roof and interviews with the team working on the project.
The new website currently covers:
- The history of all aspects of Cornerstone and background to the site
- Learning opportunities and outreach events
- Information on the roof replacement project, including FAQs and updates
- Kettering Library’s temporary arrangements and services on offer
The intention has always been that Cornerstone would have its own website showcasing the exciting offering on site when the site is able to open fully.Cllr Helen Howell, North Northamptonshire Council’s Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Sport, Leisure, Culture and Tourism
Whilst the roof project will take a considerable amount of time to complete, the new website will keep residents and visitors informed of the plans. We have also been working on developing a long-term business plan, alongside appointing a Heritage Manager who will oversee the site.
Work continues at pace behind the scenes on the project to replace the 120-year-old roof on the heritage Grade 2 listed Kettering library building. I know from speaking to residents and fellow Councillors it is important that we keep everyone up to date with what is happening and to that end, we have also commissioned a video to inform everyone of the complex process for the replacement of the library roof. We hope this video will answer some of the questions around the project.
As we move along with the project, now felt like the right time to launch the website, alongside the new video, so all the updates about the project and the plans for Cornerstone are in one place and residents know where to go for information.
In 2024, it is vital that offerings like Cornerstone have an online portal. Although we are currently unable to open the site in full, I hope the new website showcases to residents and stakeholders what has been achieved on site and what a fantastic asset Cornerstone will be for not just Kettering but the whole of North Northamptonshire.Jason Smithers, Leader of the Council
It is intended that the website offering will adapt with more information for visitors as the project moves forward and Cornerstone is ready to open fully.
The planning application for the replacement roof and listed building consent is expected to be heard in the Autumn. Once the application has going through the planning process, a contractor will be appointed, and physical work will be able to begin on site. As soon as possible, a full timeline and further detail will be published on the Cornerstone website.
The Cornerstone team can also be found on Facebook, X and Instagram.
