Have your say on a Public Space Protection Order for Kettering
Community safety16 June 2025

A public consultation has been launched to seek views on whether a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) in Kettering should be renewed and extended for a further 3 years.
A PSPO is a power under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, that allows a council to impose restrictions in particular areas to tackle nuisance or problem behaviour, within a defined public area.
The Kettering Town Centre PSPO was originally granted in 2016, extended in 2019 and 2022, is set to expire in August 2025. It was put in place to prohibit:
- Control of commercial or charity collection or soliciting for money in the street.
- Consumption of alcohol on street.
- Those in the area between the hours of 11pm and 6am whose behaviour is causing, or is likely to cause nuisance, alarm or distress to the local community.
- Driving/ using a car in an anti-social manner.
- Obstructing the highway/or loitering.
- Anti-social parking.
- Unauthorised distribution of printed material/leaflets
- Use of Skateboards, bicycles and scooters.
- Begging on the Street.
- Foul and abusive language.
The current consultation covers whether the PSPO should be renewed for a further 3 years and if there should be any amends to Order.
The PSPO plays a key role in helping us to manage anti-social behaviour in Kettering town centre, making it a safer and more welcoming place for everyone.Executive Member for Communities, Councillor Gregory Wilcox.
Listening to our communities is essential. All feedback will be carefully considered and will help shape how we move forward. If you live, work, or regularly visit the town centre, please make sure your voice is heard.
Have your say - The consultation is open until 13 July 2025 and can be completed via North Northamptonshire’s Citizen Space Hub.
Once the consultation has closed, all feedback will be analysed and considered before a report is taken to the Executive.
