Financial support for council tenants

We want to help you stay in control of your finances and sustain your tenancy by giving you the right tools, advice and support to:

• budget and manage money effectively
• reduce or manage debt
• access benefits they are entitled to
• avoid crisis situations

We will offer early and tailored support (especially if you're on a introductory or fixed term tenancy) and work with council and external partners to help you.

Support

Our Tenancy Support and Housing teams can provide tailored help to:

• apply for benefits and Universal Credit
• understand rent payments, arrears, and service charges
• budget and manage your finances
• apply for Discretionary Housing Payments (DHP)
• get referrals to local food banks and crisis support schemes
• apply for white goods, grants, or hardship funds
• access Money and Pension Service approved agencies
• navigate fuel debt, digital exclusion or other housing-related barriers
• get connected with trusted support organisations
