Environmental permits

Part A(1) processes and the Environment Agency

The Environment Agency regulates Part A(1) processes, which are the most polluting activities.

All emissions to air, land and water are covered by the permit, as well as energy efficiency, noise and the use of resources depending on the industrial process.

Most activities that treat or manage waste need to have a permit. Some exempt activities don't need a permit but do need to be registered.

Most waste processes such as landfills, waste-to-energy and waste collectors are covered by the Environment Agency.

Exempt waste operations are mostly registered by the Environment Agency, but any T3 or T7 operations operating in North Northamptonshire must be registered with us.
