Viewing the electoral register

There are two versions of the electoral register.

Full register

The full register lists the names and addresses of everyone who is registered to vote.

It is used for electoral purposes, such as making sure only eligible people can vote. It is also used for other limited purposes specified in law, such as detecting fraud, calling people for jury service, and checking credit applications.

The full register of electors is a public document. It can only be inspected under supervision at the council offices, and only handwritten notes of its contents are permitted; by law, the details on the full register are not allowed to be used for direct marketing purposes.

The full register is supplied to political parties, elected representatives and election candidates, law enforcement agencies, credit reference agencies, and other statutory bodies. A full list of those entitled to the full register is available online.

Open (edited) register

The open (edited) register of electors contains only the names of electors who have not opted out from it when registering to vote.

The open register can be bought by any person, company, or organisation for any purpose. For example, it can be used by businesses and charities to confirm name and address details.

Your name and address will be included in the open register by default unless you ask for them to be removed either when registering to vote or by contacting us

Even if you are removed from the open register, you will still be included in the full register by law, and it will not affect your right to vote.
For more information about the registers, including requests to be taken off the open register, please contact us.

Viewing the register

The current full register of electors is available for public inspection (by appointment only) at our North Northamptonshire Council offices between 9.30am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.

You cannot search the register by elector name. It is published alphabetically in address order within polling districts. We can advise you which polling districts contain certain streets.

The full register of electors is a public document. You can only inspect it under supervision at the council offices, where you will only be able to make handwritten notes of its contents - by law you are not allowed to use these for any direct marketing purposes.

To view the register, make an appointment by contacting your local elections office.

Historic Copies of the Register

Only the current register of electors is available for public inspection at the council offices. Once the full register is over fifteen years old it is sent to Northamptonshire Archives. If you have any specific queries relating to older versions of the register please contact your local elections office

Why information is on a different website
We are in the process of adding information to this new unitary council website. Some pages will give you a link back to a previous council website to help you find what you need. Read more about the changes.
