Copy certificates

You can order certificates for births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships that took place in North Northamptonshire. 

Certificates cost £12.50 per copy.

If you are ordering a marriage certificate and were married in a church or place of worship, make sure you state the full name and address of the church or place of worship so we can locate your marriage entry.

It can take up to 21 days after the ceremony for marriages to be registered. 

Can't find a certificate or cancelling

If we’re unable to find the record you’re requesting in North Northamptonshire, or if you choose to cancel your order, we will still charge an admin or search fee - so we recommend checking you're ordering from the correct county first.

These charges are:

  • £5 for a standard certificate
  • £10 for a priority certificate

You will receive a refund for your order, minus the search fee amount, for each certificate we can't find.

Order

Standard service

We will post your certificate within 15 working days of receipt of the order, using second class post for standard applications.

We will send confirmation once you have submitted your application.

Priority online service

We offer a first class post priority online service for an extra £26 per certificate.

To qualify for next working day first class despatch, your order must be placed before 3pm.

Orders placed after 3pm will be processed the next working day and dispatched one working day later.

Correcting a mistake on a certificate

Immediately after your registration, the registrar will ask you to check the information carefully and sign the register to say it is correct.

However, sometimes mistakes can be made on a certificate we issue. It may be possible to correct this, but we can only do so for registrations originally made in North Northamptonshire.

Costs

There are costs to consider a correction - if it's:

  • our mistake - there is no charge
  • the customer's mistake - the fee to consider the correction application will be up to £99 (consideration does not guarantee the correction application will be accepted)

How

If you think the information on a certificate is wrong, you will need to provide evidence from the time of the registration showing the correct information.

When you have collected the evidence you need to support your request for a correction, please email [email protected] with:

  • our name, address, telephone number and email address
  • the names, date and type of certificate that you would like correcting
  • details of the correction to be made
  • details of the evidence that you will be submitting to support your request

It may not be simple to correct the issue - so we will contact you to discuss your case in more detail and explain what happens next.
