Wellingborough Town Centre Masterplan - Public Consultation

Town centres are important places for shopping, leisure, business, and community life. In recent years, many town centres have faced challenges, including changing shopping habits, rising costs, and the impact of COVID 19. The council wants to support town centres to adapt, attract investment, and remain vibrant places for the future.

To help do this, the council is creating town centre masterplans. These plans set out a clear, long term vision to guide future development, improvements, and investment.

Following an independent review of the four growth towns - Corby, Kettering, Rushden and Wellingborough - Wellingborough was selected as the first town to have a masterplan. This was due to the town centre’s size, its strategic role, and the opportunities for regeneration and change.

A draft Wellingborough Town Centre Masterplan has now been prepared. It sets out ideas for how the town centre could change over time, including:

  • improvements to key sites
  • better public spaces
  • making it easier to move around the town centre

This draft plan is not final - it is your opportunity to help shape it.

Have your say

The council is inviting residents, businesses, and community groups to take part in a public consultation on the draft masterplan. Your feedback will help shape the final plan before it is considered by the council.

The consultation will run from Tuesday 5 May to Monday 15 June 2026. During this time, you can review the proposals and tell us what you like, what could be improved, and what matters most to you.

How to take part

Starting with Wellingborough does not mean other towns are being overlooked. Subject to available funding, a masterplan for Kettering will follow, with further town centre plans considered in the future.
