Key information about major works.

We are carrying out carriageway patching, road markings, high friction surfacing, gully cleansing, and iron works

Dates and times

Monday 5 August to Friday 9 August - Carriageway patching and road markings - 8am to 4:30pm
Monday 26 August to Friday 30 August - High friction surfacing, iron works and gully cleansing - 8am to 4:30pm

Traffic management

The works will be undertaken under a road closure. While this is in place there will be a localised diversion as shown below. The road closure is shown in red and the diversion is shown in blue.

Emergency vehicles

Emergency services will have access if safe to do so.

Residents and businesses

Access will be always available. However, the diversion will need to be followed when there is no safe route through the works on the days of the closure. The on-site team will assist with access as required. Please expect delays. Please do not park within the works extents.

Public transport

Bus services will be notified of the works and will make alternative arrangements. Please contact your local bus provider for further information.

Town centre to train station link road, phases 1 and 2

The project begins with the upgrading of, and improvements, to the cycle ways and footways, zebra crossings, installation of traffic calming features and improvement of traffic signals.

Date and times

Phase 1 - Elizabeth Street - 12 August 2024 to 21 January 2025 (no work during December 2024).
Phase 2 - Station Road and St Marks junction - 12 August 2024 to 25 October 2024.

Traffic management

Phase 1 - One-way road closure, southbound carriageway to begin with (10 weeks) and northbound thereafter (12 weeks). A diversion route will be in place. Please follow onsite signage and one.network for details (this will be in place 24/7). The road closure is shown in red and the diversion is shown in blue.

Phase 2 - One-way road closure on Station Road, northbound. Please follow onsite signage and one.network for details. The road closure is shown in red and the diversion is shown in blue.

Temporary traffic signals and lane closures will be in place at St Marks Road junction. The traffic lights will reflect the timings of the existing junction lights. However, please allow for extra journey time.

Emergency vehicles

Access will be allowed when safe to do so in an emergency situation. Otherwise please follow diversion routes.

Residents and businesses

Pedestrian access to all businesses and residents will be maintained at all times. Deliveries on Elizabeth Street may be impacted. Please contact us for further information if this applies to you. We will be carrying out face-to-face drop ins with local businesses to discuss individual needs.

Public transport

Bus stops on Elizabeth Street will be temporarily suspended and bus stops on phase 2 junction will be temporarily relocated. Bus companies have been notified and schedules may vary.

The taxi rank on Elizabeth Street will be closed during the northbound road closure.

We are carrying out carriageway patching, overlay improvement works, new drainage installation and iron work reinstatement

The works will be completed in 2 phases.

Dates and times

Phase 1 - Tuesday 27 August 2024 to Tuesday 10 September 2024 - 8am to 5pm
Phase 2 - Monday 9 September 2024 to Tuesday 17 September 2024 - 8am to 5pm

Traffic management

Road closure between the dates and hours above. There will be some instances where a full closure will be required and the phasing's could be subject to change due to works. The onsite team will be at each closure gate and will be able to help. The road closure is shown in red and the diversion is shown in blue.

Emergency vehicles

Access will be allowed when safe to do so in an emergency situation. Otherwise please follow diversion routes.

Residents and businesses

Access to all businesses and residents will be maintained at all times when safe to do so. Due to the narrow width of the carriageway there will be times the road will be fully blocked by works vehicles. In this instance motorists will be asked to follow the diversion and access from the other end of Harley Way. The site team will be at each closure gate to assist.

Public transport

No public transport will be affected.

Wednesday 4 September 2024 to Friday 13 September 2024 - 9:30am to 3:30pm - (weekday working only)

Road closure between 9:30am to 3:30pm. Road will be fully accessible outside these hours. Whilst road closure is in place there will be a localised diversion route as shown below. Closure in red and diversion in blue.

Residential vehicular access will be maintained, but this will only be allowed when the works area is safe. Delays are likely to occur. Please allow for extra time.
