North Northamptonshire Council is inviting residents, businesses, and stakeholders to share their views on a proposed Empty Homes Strategy for the local area, aimed at bringing vacant properties back into use and helping to meet local housing needs.

Empty homes can have a significant impact on communities, contributing to housing shortages and sometimes leading to issues such as vandalism or neglect. The draft strategy sets out how the council plans to tackle these challenges and make better use of existing housing stock through the tools available including Compulsory Purchase Orders and Enforced Sales.

Empty homes are a wasted resource at a time when many people are struggling to find suitable housing. Our proposed strategy sets out practical steps to reduce the number of long-term empty properties and bring them back into use for local families.

But we want to hear your views on the draft strategy to make sure the approach works for everyone in North Northamptonshire.
Cllr Kirk Harrison, the Council’s Executive Member for Regulatory Services

Once the consultation has closed the responses will be considered and collated with changes made to the strategy before it is approved by the council’s Executive later in 2026.

The consultation is now live and will run until 1 March 2026.The draft strategy and consultation survey can be accessed online via the council’s consultation hub.
