North Northamptonshire Council’s Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Partnership Board continues to raise awareness around preventing violence against women and girls by supporting this year’s 16 Days of Activism.

The Board have joined up with partners and the local community to hold a #ReclaimtheNight community march tonight (Friday 6 December) from 6.30pm in Kettering town centre.

The march aims to bring the community together in supporting everyone’s right to live free from abuse. It will also provide an opportunity to remember both victims and survivors.

If you would like to come along, the meeting point for the march is the car park on the corner of Northfield Avenue/Meadow Road, Kettering. The march will finish at the St Peter and St Paul Church, Market Place.

There will be a programme of speakers and a remembrance event to remember survivors and victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence. The event will finish at approximately 8:00pm.

Partners include Northamptonshire VOICE, Northamptonshire Rights and Equality Council, Mothers Union, Northamptonshire Domestic Abuse Service, Northamptonshire Rape Crisis, EVE and many other organisations and community groups from across North Northamptonshire.

This is a chance to show solidarity with women across the council area and beyond and show commitment to ending violence against women and girls by helping to raise awareness and inspiring community unity.

"We all have a role to play and by coming together we can make a real difference. By participating, the community will demonstrate solidarity and commitment to addressing the systemic issue of violence against women and girls.
Executive Member for Adults, Health and Wellbeing at North Northamptonshire Council, Cllr Gill Mercer
I am pleased that as a council we are supporting 16 Days of Activism culminating in the reclaim the night event.

Sadly, and sometimes tragically domestic violence happens every day of the year and I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that there is support and guidance available for anyone who might need it.
Cllr Jason Smithers, Leader of North Northamptonshire Council
